Harvest Day Party

Today was the 'Harvest Day Party' at preschool. The kids got to wear their costumes, play games, make fun Halloween crafts and participate in a trick-or-treat parade. They all looked so cute in their costumes as you can see! Cody came home with enough candy and treats to skip the trick-or-treating on Saturday altogether. If only I could convince him.

Halloween Party

It has been a very busy few days here in the Nielson home. We finally got our car back! It was at the body shop for a total of 18 days, cost $5,000 to repair, we spent $800 on a rental car, I've had 12 chiropractic appointments and during all this chaos, I found time to throw a Halloween party! Look out June Cleaver!

Today was our Halloween party and it turned out great. Cody and all 13 of his friends and cousins had a blast. They wore costumes, played games, made crafts, ate lunch and just had a great time. The only thing that would make it fantastic is if I had a maid to clean up the mess! I wasn't able to get as many pictures as I hoped because there was so much going on but here are a few. Thanks to Christina, Whitney, Shauna and my husband for all their help during the party. I couldn't have done it without you!

We made the "spider" on the left of the picture.

We also made these "monster hands".

The kids had to guess how many candy corn were in this glass. Michael won with a guess of 99!

The finished "monster hand".

Treat bags for the kids to take home were filled with Halloween puzzles, treats, prizes and the crafts they made at the party.

The prizes for the "Witches Hat Ring Toss".

Lunch time . . . hot dogs, chips, fruit and root beer.

The "Witches Hat Ring Toss".

Spider web cupcakes.

More cupcakes . . . spiders, a mummy, spider webs and pumpkins.

Clayton Valley Pumpkin Farm

Today for preschool, Cody's class took a field trip to the Clayton Valley Pumpkin Farm. We normally go every year as a family but after spending almost three hours there today with him, I think we might forgo the family trip this year. Here are some photos from our adventure.

Cody wasn't quite sure he was up for the hay maze but when all his classmates filed in he decided to give it a try.

Here the kids got to practice milking a cow.

The pumpkin farm employee gave the kids a lesson on corn, pumpkins, gourds and farm animals.

Cody grinding the corn with Mrs. Sonya.

Cody picking out a pumpkin to bring home.

The children listening to a pumpkin story.

Car Accident

Early Monday morning I was involved in a car accident, which was NOT my fault by the way. I was sitting behind another car at a crosswalk, when the girl in the car behind me plowed into my car at about 35-40 miles an hour. The male passenger that was with her immediately got out of the car and started screaming at the female driver. It was one of those, "Is he gonna pull out a gun?" type of moments, if you know what I mean. The police showed up a few minutes later, exchanged our information and I was on my way.

The good news -
  • The driver had insurance, and they accepted 100% responsibility for the accident.
  • Cody was NOT with me at the time.

The bad news -
  • From the pictures the damage seems minimal, and I think considering the force at which she hit me I got off lucky, however, most of the damage is underneath the car.
  • Our car is almost 10 years old and after a trip to the body shop, the damage estimate is only $800 shy of the total value of the car.
  • I've been in some pain in my back and especially my neck, causing several trips to the chiropractor.
We should know more in the next few days, after the car goes into the body shop and they are able to take it apart and see if there is any additional damage not included in the original estimate. Until then . . .

Crime Reporter

Even without his police scanner, which was lost back on the 4th of July, David still finds ways to be the first to report crime information to CLAYCORD.COM's "Mr. Mayor". Check it out here.

Hooray for Fall!

Fall is officially here! Hooray!! I LOVE the fall . . . the smells, the colors and most of all the weather. Last week I pulled out the Fall/Halloween decorations and today after church Cody and I put them up. He also spent a large part of the day dressing up in his old Halloween costumes. Amazingly enough all of them, with the exception of the first one he ever wore fit. He was quite cute parading around as a pirate and a fireman. He is anxious for Halloween this year knowing it is a sign that his birthday is right around the corner.

Catch Up . . . Again

Our blog seems to be taking a back seat lately. The last few weeks have been very busy, leaving little time for new entries. Isn't the picture above cute? A few weeks ago David tried to tackle the large amount of leaves in our yard (Hooray for fall!). Cody of course insisted on helping, so there he was, in his jammies, sunglasses on and blower in hand. He pretty much blew the leaves David had already removed back into the yard but he sure had a blast.

Cody is still loving preschool. I will say however that he is not a morning person (he gets it from his dad)! He has a hard time getting up, getting dressed, eating breakfast and getting out the door. I can only imagine what a nightmare it's going to be the older he gets.

Last week in class he drew a picture of his family. He drew David, myself, himself as well as someone named "Candy". Thanks to Grammy and Poppy Cody thinks candy is an official member of the family. He also added his cousins McKenzie and Kelsey into the picture. It's proudly displayed on our fridge.

On another day he came home with a paper that had his fingerprints on it. I asked him about the picture and then he proceeded to let me know you get your fingerprints taken when you go to jail. Although true, it caught me off-guard and I couldn't help but bust out laughing.

Also in the last week Cody and I met one of my friends for lunch at McDonald's. Each time we visit with this particular friend Cody loves to feed the ducks. We had just sat down with our food and Cody immediately asked, "Maria, can we feed the ducks?" She replied, "Yes". Cody then said, "We don't have any bread." Maria replied, "That's okay, we can feed them your french fries." He looked at her, looked at his fries and then turned to me and asked, "Mom, can we feed the ducks your fries instead?".

Some other things we've been up to -
  • Trying new recipes - some good, some not so good.
  • Redi2 Fun Night (David's work party, families invited for a BBQ and swimming)
  • Time Out for Women
  • Ward Roundup
  • Preparing for a garage sale that didn't happen due to rain, lightening and thunder. Very abnormal for California in September!
  • Dog sitting for our neighbor who was out of town for two weeks.
  • Making plans for a Halloween party for all Cody's cousins - details coming soon.
  • David's taking some classes at DVC for the fall semester.
  • Ward play date/potluck luncheon

Some things coming up in the next few weeks -

  • David heads to San Antonio, Texas for a few days on Sunday the 27th.
  • Decorating for Halloween
  • General Conference
  • Adding to our food storage with a trip to the cannery.
